Dmitri Capyrin is a Russian composer who successfully combines a variety techniques, often using literary sources and motifs in his works. In several works Capyrin fluidly combines a variety of techniques, including traditional tonality, twelve-tone composition, and modality. Modality is an important element of Capyrin's compositional procedure: relying on essiaen's concept of limited transposition, he also experiments with the tone-semitone scale. While Capyrin treats structure as transformative within a single piece, which may create, at a superficial level, a feeling of uncertainty and ambivalence, his music conveys a clearly articulated message...

1984 graduated from the Lviv (Lemberg) Conservatoire, Ukraine
1992 master classes with Poul Ruders and Edison Denisov in Lercherborg, Denmark

1994 Second prize in the Concorso di Composizione - ICONS in Torino ("Sounds and Voices" for Chamber Ensemble)
1996 Honorable mention in the International Competition of Musical Composition in Besancon, France ("Dreams" for Symphony Orchestra)
1995 Scholarship of the Berlin Akademie der Kunste for working on stage composition "Incarnation of Colour" for Painters, Dancers, Chamber Ensemble and Electronics.
2005 Finalist of the International Henri Dutilleux Competition, France (Concerto for Bassoon and Chamber Orchestra)
